Robert Kirkman thinks The Walking Dead can run for five more seasons

AMC’s zombie hit The Walking Dead is in its seventh season and flirting with 100 episodes. So how much longer can it go?

Creator Robert Kirkman, who writes the comic the show is based on and also serves as a producer, went on record saying he believes they’ll still be around five years from now — and possibly a good bit longer. In the latest issue of the comic, Kirkman mused about the longevity of the series. For Kirkman, he sees The Walking Dead going strong well into the early-to-mid 2020s.

Here’s an excerpt from his comment:

“It took us six seasons to get to 100. It won’t take us six years to get to 200 and that will take us to season… TWELVE. And we’ll still be ahead of the show at that point.'

There could have been a Blade and Underworld crossover?!?!

If the creators of Underworld had their way we could have had a Blade/Underorld crossover. That's right Blade and Selene would have been kicking vampire ass on the big screen.

Bloodydisgusting.com reports:

When it comes to vampire slayers, the list of iconic names is rather short. There’s obviously Van Helsing, Buffy, and D but you’d have to venture into serious fandom to find people who can name folk like Peter Vincent or Rayne. But in the middle of those two categories are the vampire hunters who have attained some measure of pop culture success. It’s here that we find Selene of Underworld fame and Blade, the titular character of his own series.

Now, there’s apparently been a movement to get these two film franchises to do a crossover, much like how A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th came together in Freddy vs. Jason. That idea wasn’t just something fans were eager to see. It turns out that the creators behind the Underworld films wanted to see that happen as well, which is why they explored that possibility. Alas, they ran into the biggest of roadblocks, according to star Kate Beckinsale, who told audiences at a New York Comic Con panel, “No. We had that idea. No. [Marvel is] doing something with ‘Blade’.”

The Walking Dead: Creator Says the Comics and Show Will Have Different Endings

During and interview The Walking Dead creator, Robert Kirkman, once again teased the end of the popular drama. He revealed that the series and comics will have different endings.

Kirkman said the following, according to The Wrap:

“I hope the show ends and the comics keep going. The comic was the comic before the show, so I try to maintain that. I know how I want to end ‘The Walking Dead’…I don’t want it on the show before I get it in my comic. If the show were to ever end at any point and the comic was still going, I would have to sit down with Scott and pretend I have no idea how to end it and then work with him to try and come up with a new ending.”

The Walking Dead will premiere its new season on October 23.

Don't Breathe headed to $22 million opening

UPDATE 08/27/16 Variety: Don't Breathe opens to $26.1 million.

The horror genre proves to be frighteningly reliable this season as “Don’t Breathe” is the latest scary flick to have an impressive box office showing. The film, from Sony and Screen Gems, earned $10 million on Friday at 3,051 locations, and is eyeing a $22 million opening weekend.

This strong opening for “Don’t Breathe” is especially successful considering its price tag of less than $10 million. The film was produced by Steve Bersh’s Stage Six Films and distributed and marketed by Screen Gems. It debuted at SXSW and screened at Comic-Con, and currently has an 87% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Don’t Breathe” is about three robbers in Detroit who target a man who they think is blind and helpless, but turns out to be anything but. It is directed by Fede Alvarez and stars Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette, Daniel Zovatto and Stephen Lang.

Horror projects have shown an uncanny ability to draw crowds this year — New Line’s “The Conjuring 2” has earned over $100 million domestically and $320 million worldwide, while the same studio’s “Lights Out” has brought in a global sum of $111 million. Universal’s “The Purge: Election Year” also broke the $100 million milestone worldwide.
