Fear the Walking Dead picked as one of 2015's worst shows

Variety TV columnist Brian Lowry has released his "The Worst TV Shows of 2015" list. One of the shows to make that list was AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. While I wasn't a big fan of the show and think it needs to pick up the pace, I'm not sure it deserves to be on a "worst shows" list.

Brian Lowry wrote this about Fear the Walking Dead being included on the list:

Again, this spinoff was a victim of its ties to the hugely popular original series, having tried to essentially cross “Parenthood” with the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse. While that was in theory an interesting idea, a lackluster assortment of characters created little incentive to root for anyone to get out alive.

The Dead War Series at Walker Stalker Con NY/NJ

Hi all, this is George Cook author of the Dead War Zombie Series. Last night the wife (who does not understand my infatuation with The Walking Dead or zombies) gave me an early Christmas present by buying me tickets to the first day of the Walker Stalker Con (Walking Dead Convention) in Seacuacus NJ. I just wanted to share a few pics and videos of our fun experience there and some of the very nice people we met.

After parking our car we were greeted by the site of a Walking Dead bus!

Once inside we immediately met Herschel! Okay we met the actor Scott Wilson who was a very nice guy. A little huggy with the wife and I imagined cutting his head off, LOL. But seriously though, he could sense that my wife couldn't quite get into the Walking Dead/ Zombie thing as was trying to make her feel at ease. As I stated earlier he's a real nice guy.

Minutes later we were able to meet Merle AKA Michael Rooker who is also a very nice guy. Nothing like the asshole character he played on The Walking Dead.

We then were able to meet one of my all time favorite characters from The Walking Dead TV show, T-Dog (IronESingleton)! This just might be one of the nicest PEOPLE I have ever met. There were two lines for people with general admission and for others with VIP passes and he treated everyone the same. He spent equal amounts of time with everyone and was actually interested in the fans and loved taking pictures. This guy loves to hug EVERYBODY! He almost broke my neck but it was all love. LOL. he shared some plans with me on some music he is working on so I wish him luck. I wonder if he will b e allowed to use the T-Dog name.

Later we sat and listened to Lincoln A. Castellanos, the actor that plays Tobias on Fear the Walking Dead during a Q & A session. Sorry no pics or video of this as I was to busy explaining to the wife who Tobias was and that there are two The Walking Dead TV shows. But he is a very funny young man and was very coy about the future of Tobias on Fear the Walking Dead.

We then walked the convention floor checking out what the vendors were selling. This is where I decided to zombify myself much to the bemusement of my wife. The guys at the Zombie Photo Booth (https://zombify.smugmug.com/ made my photo into a very convincing zombie. I have actually incorporated there work into a new ad for my book.

After that it was almost closing time so the wife and I decided to beat the crowds out the door so that we could avoid the traffic but WE had a great time. She eventually loosened up and although she is loathe to admit it she enjoyed herself at Walker Stalker Con.

Can't wait until next year!

'The Walking Dead' Finale Will Likely End With A Jaw-Dropping Comic Moment

The walls of Alexandria have come tumbling down, and the town is in for a world of hurt tonight in the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead. The show’s arrival at this point signifies it’s time for an important moment from the comics, one that many fans believed would never come, but I am convinced we will see tonight.

Obviously we’re going to veer sharply into comic spoiler territory here, which I believe will turn into show spoilers soon enough. I do not watch advance screeners, so all of this is my own theories and thoughts, but I think I’m correct regardless. You have been warned.

AMC renews The Walking Dead for a 7th season.

In something that shouldn't come as too much of a surprise (unlike Glenn's maybe death) AMC has renewed The Walking Dead for a 7th season. Here's the full press release about the announcement from AMC.

The October 25th episode of “The Walking Dead” delivered 18.2 million viewers, 12 million adults 18-49 and 11.5 million adults 25-54 in live+3 ratings, which include three days of time-shifted viewing – each growing compared to last season’s corresponding episode #503. Last Sunday’s “Talking Dead” was its highest-rated episode ever that was not a premiere or a finale, delivering 7.3 million viewers, 4.6 million adults 18-49 and 4.7 million adults 25-54 in live+3.

“Thank goodness someone had a Magic 8-Ball with them in our many long internal meetings about these renewals. When, on the third shake, ‘without a doubt’ filled the murky blue screen, we knew we had to proceed with new seasons of ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Talking Dead,’” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. “All joking aside, we are so proud to share these shows with fans who have been so passionate, communicative and engaged. We are grateful for and continually impressed by the talent, effort and excellence on continuous display by Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, Chris Hardwick and the many people with whom we partner to make these unique shows possible. The result: More Walking and Talking. Hooray.”

Key Nielsen Highlights for October 25th Episode #603 of “The Walking Dead” (Live+3)

18.2 million viewers, up 39% from live/same day (an increase of 5.1 million viewers)

12.0 million adults 18-49 (national rating of 9.5), up 42% from live/same day (an increase of 3.5 million adults 18-49)

11.5 million adults 25-54, up 41% from live/same day (an increase of 3.3 million adults 25-54)

Key Nielsen Highlights for October 25th Episode of “Talking Dead” (Live+3)

7.3 million viewers, up 18% from live/same day (an increase of 1.1 million viewers)

4.6 million adults 18-49 (national rating of 3.6), up 17% from live/same day (an increase of 673,000 adults 18-49)

4.7 million adults 25-54, up 18% from live/same day (an increase of 699,000 adults 25-54)

Following a free premiere event with 13,500 screaming fans at Madison Square Garden, “The Walking Dead” has kicked off its sixth season with impressive social activity, drawing nearly 20 million social engagements between premiere week and episode 3 and ranking as the #1 most engaging drama. Since last year's premiere, “The Walking Dead” has gained 5.5 million new fans across social media, now tracking with an audience of nearly 40 million. Instagram has surfaced as “The Walking Dead’s” fastest-growing social platform, with the show capturing more than 8% of the industry’s engagement so far this season, up 25% from last year. Meanwhile, the series’ audience size has more than tripled on Instagram, while total engagements have jumped 325% from this point last year, with 8 million total engagements for the season to date.

For season seven, Scott M. Gimple will return as the series’ showrunner and executive producer, along with executive producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse.

Around the world, season seven of “The Walking Dead” will again be “First on FOX,” with FOX International Channels (FIC) bringing the show to audiences globally in all of its 125+ markets as part of FIC's continued commitment to broadcast the series day-and-date internationally. Following the U.S. trend, “The Walking Dead” continues to break records overseas and has more than tripled its numbers on FOX since its launch.

'The Walking Dead' Season 6 to feature 90-minute episode centered on Morgan

Fans have been long anticipating a flashback episode centered on Morgan, explaining where the character has been over the past few seasons and how he developed his impressive bo-staff skills.

It now appears that episode will be 90 minutes long, according to actor Lennie James' recent interview with HeyUGuys.com.

"It's almost like a standalone film, and I believe it's going to be shown as a 90-minute special," James told the site. "It's going to be an intense ride. It's very much going to be in keeping with the mythology of 'The Walking Dead.' But is a very different kind of episode. Hopefully it's one that the fans will like."

Internet blogs have suggested that episode isn't far off and will, in fact, be episode 4 of Season 6, which airs next Sunday, Nov. 1. The episode is titled "Here's Not Here" with a vague synopsis: "A new face appears; trust issues form."

Based on the synopsis, some have speculated the episode will feature the introduction of Paul "Jesus" Monroe or Negan. But it's now clear the episode will be all about Morgan.

Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha) previews 'The Walking Dead'

Bigger' is the best way to described the new season of 'The Walking Dead,' according to star Sonequa Martin-Green who plays 'Sasha Williams.' She previewed season six during Good Day New York. Watch more of that interview below:

The 'Walking Dead' Season Premiere Wants To Be Spectacular

The Walking Dead’s season-six premiere is set up to make you think it is an ambitious piece of TV filmmaking. It jumps back and forth in time, putting the past in black-and-white, the present in vibrant color. The episode, titled “First Time Again,” is constructed as a daring, somewhat complex plan to corral and contain a large number of walkers, led, of course, by Rick Grimes.

It looked for a little while last season that The Walking Dead had finally come up with a woman who could match Rick for tough leadership. She came in the person of Tovah Feldshuh as Deanna Monroe, leader of the Alexandrians. Feldshuh is a singularly commanding actor, and Deanna an unusually forceful figure in the Walking Dead TV-universe. But though this is open to interpretation, I think Sunday’s episode proves — very pointedly at the start of a new season — that no one gets the upper hand with Rick around.

Rick is the John Wayne of The Walking Dead, but he’s not the simple, heroic John Wayne of hundreds of Westerns — no, he’s a specific John Wayne: the John Wayne of The Searchers. The one who is tragically arrogant, blinded by his sense of his own personal loss to insist that his way is the only way, and anyone who disagrees with him should get out of the way or be crushed.

Fear the Walking Dead may be concluding its first season this Sunday, October 4th, but “Fear” will continue to spread as AMC rolls out its newest web series, officially titled Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462, online beginning this fall. The first installment of the 16-part series will debut on amc.com on Sunday, October 4th and will then air as promos during two commercial breaks within The Walking Dead Season 6 premiere episode on Sunday, October 11th.

Subsequent episodes of Flight 462, each less than one minute long, will debut every Sunday, online and then on-air as promos during new episodes of The Walking Dead, for the duration of Season 6. In addition, one of the characters featured in the web series, which is produced by Fear the Walking Dead showrunner and executive producer Dave Erickson and co-executive producer David Wiener, will join the cast of Fear the Walking Dead Season 2.

Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462 tells the story of a group of passengers aboard a commercial airplane during the earliest moments of the outbreak. Over the course of the series, the plane and the lives of its passengers are put in jeopardy once they discover an infected traveler. The series is written by L. Signorino and Mike Zunic and directed by Fear director of photography Michael McDonough.

“Flight 462 is a great extension of the world of Fear and will engage fans across multiple platforms with another riveting story set at the start of the fall of civilization,” said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV. “We are thrilled to be collaborating with Dave Erickson and David Wiener on another piece of original content. Watching how they’ll bring one of these new characters to the second season of Fear will be really exciting for viewers to follow.”

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, plot synopsis

When you think of the fun and action filled Resident Evil movies one thing that doesn't come to mind is the plot. I always thought the plot was to have Milla Jovovich run around in some impossibly tight get up and kick zombie/human ass. It seems that the supposedly last movie in the franchise which at this time is featuring the obvious title, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will actually have a plot. Okay that's the plan anyway. Read the plot synopsis below.

"Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.

In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion."

Coming soon: The Walking Dead beer?

A small brewery is releasing a Walking Dead Beer in October. Now I'm not touching it because this could be how the zombie apocalypse starts. You know, with friends sharing brews during a football game before being transformed into the living dead by said brew.

Press Release: Terrapin Beer Co. has partnered with Skybound Entertainment, the company founded by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, to create the official beer of the undead. Whether you’re animated or reanimated, The Walking Dead Blood Orange IPA will put a shuffle in your step.

The Walking Dead comic book series, which was created by Robert Kirkman, debuted in 2003 and is the inspiration behind the wildly-popular TV series of the same name that premiered in 2010.

The partnership with Terrapin came naturally, as both the comic and the TV show have strong ties to Georgia. Much of the comic book is based in the state and the TV show is filmed in Senoia, a small town just outside of Atlanta. Further strengthening the local bond between the Walking Dead story and Terrapin is that the brewery’s beers have been featured in multiple episodes of the TV show since Season 2. Like many folks out there, Terrapin is a big fan of The Walking Dead and is excited to be part of this collaborative project.

From the label:

Terrapin Beer Company and The Walking Dead have teamed up to brew the official beer of the undead. Made with blood orange peel, and a horrific amount of hops, this bloodthirsty Red IPA will have you prepared for the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse.

The Walking Dead Blood Orange IPA will be available in 22 oz. bottles throughout Terrapin’s full distribution footprint. Look for these bombers to drop on October 5! [SOURCE]

Fear The Walking Dead Fans, stop yelling at your TV.

If you are like me you screamed, "Don't do that!", a lot during the second episode of Fear The Walking Dead titled So Close, Yet So Far. I honestly was going ape sh*t every time a character did something that was incredibly stupid. I had to remind myself of something to keep from having a nervous breakdown.

The characters on Fear The Walking Dead don't know the rules yet.

My one little, okay big quibble with this is that this is another zombie show/movie where no one has ever seen a zombie show/movie. So it therefore takes a while to realize that getting bitten is a bad thing and destroying the brain is how you kill a zombie/walker. But I digress...

So when we see Alycia do some dumb sh*t like continuing to touch her sick boyfriend or worse yet her parents allowing her to do so when they know something is wrong we have to just let it go.

When Madison leaves the house leaving the two dumbest teenagers (one being a junkie) on TV behind to fend for themselves during the start of a zombie apocalypse, we have to let it go.

When we see Madison try to talk to zombie Artie while he's going full walker we have to let it go. I thought Principal Skinner is the only school administrator that hangs out in school all day. Oops I digressed again.

I'm not even going to mention the other annoying kid, Chris or how polite Travis is through all of this.

So just stop yelling things like "You stupid b*tch!", "Are you f*cking kidding me!", and "The head, hit it in the f*cking head!". At some point, and hopefully soon these characters will learn the rules.

Until then we have Tobias!

Why Are We Obsessed With Zombies?

Check out this Newsweek article by Catriona Miller that delves into our current zombie obsession.

“The zombie apocalypse has upended the entire TV business.”

Those were the words of TV Guide in response to The Walking Dead, the smash-hit show for cable channel AMC in 2012.

Based on an equally popular graphic novel series, the show centers on Rick Grimes, a deputy sheriff who wakens from a long coma to find that the world has been overrun by a zombie apocalypse. It was the No. 1 entertainment series on TV among 18- to 49-year-old adults at the time, a “landmark accomplishment for a cable show.”

The monster ratings continued through to this year, so no wonder AMC is now launching a prequel series. Fear the Walking Dead will take place at the start of the zombie apocalypse and follow a different group of survivors. Teasers, trailers and speculation have been all over the Internet for months ahead of the August 23 premiere, making it one of the most hotly anticipated across the globe for some time.

While the main show is itself returning for a sixth season in October, there are also numerous other big-budget zombie stories in the offing. World War Z is being followed by a sequel in 2017, while the odder mash-up phenomenon that is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, adapted from a novel of the same name, is due for release in 2016.

And that’s just the tip of the zombie-berg. They stretch into any number of forms that encourage participation in popular culture: video games, such as Wii U console launch title Zombi4U; augmented reality games; phone apps; and immersive zombie walks across the globe. There are zombie runs, where participants are “encouraged” along by zombie attacks; the zombie shopping mall experience; and even the I Survived a Zombie Apocalypse game show.

Check out this sneak peek of episode 2 of Fear The Walking dead, Yet So Far.

Interview with Mike Evans author of Zombies & Chainsaws

Check out my interview with Mike Evans, the author of Zombies and Chainsaws and the Orphans. (TDWS is short for The Dead War Series)

TDWS: What inspired you to become an author?

MIKE EVANS: Everyone thinks they have a book in them. I was no different and when I did start to write one and finally finished it, I found out that I had many, many books within me.

TDWS: Why write in the zombie genre?

MIKE EVANS: That is because of The Walking Dead. A funny side note I thought that for some reason I was the first one to think of a zombie book. I didn't realize that there were thousands upon thousands to compete with.

TDWS: Lets's get to your book. What's it about? Is it a series?

MIKE EVANS: I have 2 zombies series. Series 1 is The Orphans it's about a man that tries to save the woman he loves and in doing so starts the zombie apocalypse. He gets his son and his son's friends to a secluded cabin trying to get them safe and free from the reach of the zombies.

Series 2 is Zombies and Chainsaws. It is just a group of guys that drive into hell and only have their tree trimming tools with them as they are out of town. If you like the Romero zombies and lots of gore and horror this books is most definitely for you!

TDWS: As I'm sure you know there are thousands of zombie books out there right now. What makes yours stand out?

MIKE EVANS: My zombies have strength and speed like no other. They can heal and they hunt in packs. They are also the only ones I know where they take a bite out of themselves for their first taste of flesh.

TDWS: What's the cause of the zombie apocalypse in your book/books?

MIKE EVANS: In the Orphans it's the main character and the somewhat anti hero Frank Fox trying to save the woman he loves with a vaccine that doesn't work. Because they never work. When he tries to give it to her it starts the zombie apocalypse and it spreads like wildfire.

TDWS: Are your zombies the fast or slow moving type?

MIKE EVANS: The Orphans are crazy fast and strong almost dog like at times with their speed and running on all fours when they really get going.

Zombies and Chainsaws have the slow Romero style Z's and are literally straight out of the grave slow and wobbly walking.

TDWS: Are you trying to make any greater point with your books or just write a good zombie story?

MIKE EVANS: I am not trying to enlighten anyone just enjoy writing a good book. The Orphans were really the biggest just in they were growing up orphans in a society where parents work to much and they had to take care of themselves long before they should have needed to!

TDWS: Do you have an online presence? If so where? Blogs, web sites, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

MIKE EVANS: I have a author page on facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/M-Evans-Author/1438259789750360?ref=bookmarks
