Is the apocalypse beginning? Man eats off another man's face in Florida.

Is the zombie apocalypse upon us? A naked man was found along a highway chewing off another man's face. It took a responding officer five maybe more shots to put the man down and save the other. The "official" explanation for the attackers behavior is cocaine psychosis. Yeah that's right blame it on drugs. Check the story out below.

There is no sanctuary.

That was taken away in the blink of an eye. Humanity went out not with a whimper, but a bang.

Jack, a sometimes humorous, sometimes philosophical ex-special operations pilot and soldier is one of the few left to struggle through the desolation left in the aftermath; seeking to survive as a new ferocious species emerges from the rubble, hungry and unrelenting. Will his special forces training be enough? Will he be able to keep his children safe and guide the few survivors through perils that now roam the world they once knew? Or will the hordes that now own the night prevail, forever removing the last of mankind from existence? Humankind was once at the top of the food chain. But that has now changed.

This hard-hitting, action-packed series begins with Jack Walker being suddenly thrust into a world where the infrastructure which cherished Armani suits, night clubs, fast and expensive cars and watching the daily stock market are gone. Left in its place is the material world mankind built but a majority of the population has vanished; replaced by a new, savage, unrelenting, cunning, animalistic species which hunts and operates at night.

The pros and cons of using a baseball bat during a zombie apocalypse.

If there ever is a zombie apocalypse many things will be running through our minds. First and foremost the overwhelming majority of us will be thinking about self preservation and the safety of our families. To those of you questioning why I put self preservation before the safety of loved ones it's because a dead person can't protect anyone.

Now the most logical thing to do is to find a secure building and just stay the fuck there. But us being human at some point and time some one will need food and water.

That means going outside. That means you will have to defend yourself against the hordes of the dead. Now unless you have one of those neighbors who has been waiting his whole life for a zombie apocalypse and has secretly stashed enough weapons to fight World War III you probably wont have access to many firearms. That means you will be relying on blunt objects to eliminate the dead.

The baseball bat is very common in many households as a sporting accessory or as a cheap security system. It also will get the job done against a slow moving target and we all know that the dead wont be winning any 100 yard dashes anytime soon.

With that in mind as a service to TDWS readers I have decided to list the pros and cons of the baseball bat as a zombie killing weapon.

Pros

* Ease of use. If you need instructions on how to use it you wont be alive long anyway.

* Doesn't need to be reloaded.

* Light weight. Wont slow you down if you have to haul ass.

* Available in most department and sporting goods stores.

Cons

* Requires you to be relatively close to zombie attackers.

* Normally requires more than one swing to take out the dead.

* Sucks against multiple attackers.

* Don't miss! A miss or an over swing can lead to an entire side of your body being exposed.

* Will eventually break or if aluminum, bend.

In Conclusion.

So in closing my professional zombie killing opinion is that it's not the best of weapons but will do the job in a pinch.

Late Fall – 2010

Reuters – Estimates say that nearly three thousand people nationwide, and fifteen thousand people worldwide have died of the H1N1 virus or Swine flu and nearly eighty thousand cases have been confirmed in hospitals and clinics across the United States and the world, the World Heath Organization reported. The influenza pandemic of 2010, while not nearly as prolific as the one that raged in 1918 still has citizens around the world in a near state of panic.

New York Post (Headlines October 31st) – Beware! Children Carry Germs! – Halloween Canceled!

New York Times – (Headlines November 3rd) – Swine flu claims latest victim – Vice President surrounded by family and friends at the end.

Boston Globe – (Headlines November 28th) – Swine Flu Vaccinations Coming!

Boston Herald – (Headlines December 6th) – Shots in Short Supply – Lines Long!

National Enquirer – (Headlines December 7th) – The Dead Walk!

There would be no more headlines.

It started in a lab at the CDC (Center for Disease Control), virologists were so relieved to finally have an effective vaccination against the virulent swine flu. Pressure to come up with something had come from the highest office in the land. In an attempt at speed the virologists had made two mistakes, first they used a live virus and second they didn’t properly test for side effects. Within days hundreds of thousands of vaccinations shipped across the US and the world. People lined up for the shots, like they were waiting in line for concert tickets. Fights broke out in drugstores as fearful throngs tried their best to get one of the limited shots. Within days the CDC knew something was wrong. Between 4 and 7 hours of receiving the shot roughly 95% succumbed to the active H1N1 virus in the vaccination. More unfortunate than the death of the infected was the added side effect of reanimation, it would be a decade before scientists were able to ascertain how that happened. The panic that followed couldn’t be measured. Loved ones did what loved ones always do, they tried to comfort, their kids or their spouses or their siblings, but what came back was not human not even remotely. Those people that survived their first encounter with these monstrosities usually did not come through unscathed, if bitten they had fewer than 6 hours of humanity left, the clock was ticking. During the first few hysteria ridden days of The Coming as it has become known, many thought the virus was airborne, luckily that was not the case or nobody would have survived. It was a dark time in human history. One from which we may never be able to pull ourselves out of the ashes from.

Excerpt: The Dead War Series Book 1

Hi this is George Cook author of The Dead War Series Book 1. I am thrilled to share with you a short excerpt from the book. Hope you like it and I hope it encourages you to purchase the book. Have fun reading.

The other door slowly slid upward. The sounds of the moaning became louder as the door stopped.

Richards   raised his pistol as the dead lumbered out of the tunnel and into the pit. They moaned loudly and their arms were outstretched toward the soldier.

Richards remembered the rules of “The Test”. You were allowed to take three of the dead out with your pistol but two kills had to be by hand to prove that you could defend yourself without a pistol.

There was no hesitation. Richards   fired. The blue bead of light slammed into the head of the first of the dead out of the tunnel.

The blast blew out the back of the lumbering ghouls head. Richards  quickly aimed his pistol at the second and fired. The blast caught the second of the dead in the side of the head sending it tumbling to the ground.

The remaining three were only about ten yards away now.

Richards  went down and one knee and aimed again.

Sergeant Patesh leaned forward. What the fuck was his student doing.

From across the pit Chen shot Patesh a confused look.

Richards  exhaled and fired again. Another of the dead fell to the ground. What was left of it’s head was a bloody mass.

The dead were only five yards away now. Richards  holstered his pistol and unsheathed his knife.

As one of the dead reached down at him. He lurched up ward ramming the knife through the chin of the dead woman.  The tip of the knife came out through the top of the dead woman’s head and she collapsed to the ground. Black fluid poured from her mouth.

Richards  spun away as the last of the dead reached at him. The fat dead man reached again. The soldier caught him by the arm and spun it into the wall. The dead man’s head hit the wall with a thud.

Richards  ran up behind the dead man and began to contiguously ram his head into the wall. Blood and black fluid flew into the air as the dead man’s head was smashed open. Soon the dead man’s brains spilled out and it slumped to the ground.. Now it was truly dead.

There was no danger of contamination from the blood as the virus or whatever it was that caused the dead to walk could only be spread by the bite of one of the infected dead.

Richards  looked at those above him who begun to clap their hands and cheer.

The door Richards  had walked out of opened back up. He stepped through the door where he was greeted by several men in black uniforms and black berets.

One of the men stepped forward holding a black beret in his hand. The beret had a flaming skull in it’s center front and the word Scout underneath.

Corporal  Richards took the beret and looked at it as Patesh entered the room.

Richards saluted.

Patesh saluted back and then handed Richards his Sergeant stripes, “Good job out there.”

Sergeant Richards smiled, “Thank you Sergeant.”

All Scouts automatically earned the rank of sergeant upon completion of their training which concluded with “The Test”

Patesh nodded and stepped back as the other scouts got in formation behind him.

“Raise your right hand.”, ordered Patesh.

Richards raised his hand.

Then the twenty men in the room began to recite the Scout’s Creed.

I will fight alone

But I fight for the many

I will never give up

I will soldier on

I will finish my mission

I will not fail

I am a SCOUT!

“You may now put on your beret, Scout”, said Patesh.

Richards put the beret and stood at attention.

Patesh smiled, “Welcome to the Scout Corp.”
