ARIOCH: The Demon of Vengeance is Here

Dead War Series author George Cook would like to introduce to his latest work, ARIOCH: Demon of Vengeance. A horror short story filled with gore, humor, and maybe a surprise or two.

SYNOPSIS: A story that mixes current real life events occurring in America with a heavy dose of horror. When an innocent man is murdered in a small backwoods town an unspeakable evil is released upon those who killed him.

Review Excerpts:

Don't expect flowery or polite prose from Arioch; this is no surreal supernatural tale. Arioch is grounded in realism...Shady Grimm

The plot was interesting, fast paced and accentuated with a wicked twist at the end...Myra

I love how the author creates twists and turns to keep the reader interested until the end...Kat.

Why would a zombie author write Giant Land Octopus?

Hey there this is George L. Cook III. I fancy myself an author (others may differ) as I have written a series of 5 zombie books titled The Dead War Zombie Series. On August 1, 2014 I released my latest book Giant Land Octopus which one can tell by its title has nothing to do with zombies. It's more in the sci-fi horror/humor genre (if there's such a thing) and the title says it all.

Some may wonder why I would write Giant Land Octopus. To be honest it's not the first book I have written outside the zombie genre. I have written urban fiction and children's books also but I'm a science fiction and horror fan at heart so I always find my way back to both genres. But to be honest constantly write about zombies eating people are coming up with creative ways to kill zombies can get depressing. I know what you are thinking, zombie apocalypses are usually depressing.

I'm also a big sci-fi fan. I grew up watching U.F.O. , Star Trek, Space 1999 and newer shows like Space: Above and Beyond or Battlestar Galatica (The newer one). I currently watch The Last Ship, The Strain, The Walking Dead or basically any show that starts with "The".

I love sci-fi movies like Star Wars, Aliens, Blade Runner, and The Matrix. I really have a fond spot for old creature feature movies. You know movies like THEM which was about big giant ants or Food of the Gods which was about giant rats. (don't ever watch the sequel. I warned you.) I also loved Kingdom of the Spiders which has a tile that should be self explanatory.

I will also admit to liking some of the stuff on the Syfy channel. You know like Sharktopus or Sharknado. Hey it's not high art (but it's better if your'e high) but it's enjoyable garbage that elicits a few laughs. That's what I was shooting for when I wrote Giant Land Octopus.

I don't really know how I came up with a giant octopus but it was down to that and a giant gerbil. I decided that no one but Tom Cruise would be excited by a giant gerbil so I went with the octopus. (I know that was uncalled for but you laughed.

Now I did't take the overly campy route although there is comedy it's not the spoof or outright parody type. I even studied up on octopuses (I learned that octopi is not actually the plural form). I found two species that fit the story and tried to keep things as realistic as you can in a story titled Giant Land Octopus. I took a few liberties as far as calling the liquid it secrets to disable it's victims ink when it's really not and I made (or believe I did) some crap about octopuses not leaving their "hunting grounds". Hey it sounds good and explains why the octopus just want go away and eat another town.

I wanted to have fun with a story and share my love of sci-fi and old creature feature movies. There are even a few reference to at least three sci-fi movies in the story. I wonder who can catch them. I think I have shared my love of these movies with a quick and witty old fashioned monster of the week story. I hope you take the time to check it out and maybe even leave a review (please!).

Well what are you waiting for? Buy the damn book already...LOL. No really buy the kindle version of the book on Amazon for 99¢ by clicking the picture below:

Today's zombie book of the day: Rotters by Carl R Cart

I just finished reading this zombie book and I really enjoyed it. It tries and succeeds in coming up with a plausible scenario in which a zombie apocalypse could happen. There are of course a few scares and the requisite zombie gore. I recommend this book to all zombie lovers out there. George Cook thedeadwarseries.com

Synopsis: Set in the dark heart of Africa, Rotters is a hard-core mix of biology, forensic science, military adventure and graphic zombie horror wrapped up in a leaking body bag.

When a deadly new virus emerges in the Congo river basin of central Africa, Dr. Peter Barry must lead an elite military recon team deep into the heart of the rain forest in a desperate race against time to discover the source of the virus. Each step closer to their goal brings new revelations about the virus, themselves, and the unimaginable fact that zombies are real.

Will there be another Dead War Series book?

Hey all, George Cook here.

After the ending of The Dead War Series Book Three: War I have been asked whether the series will continue.

The answer is yes. Yes there will be another Dead War Series book. There are still many battles against the dead and the "others" ( don't want to give away spoilers to anyone who has not read the trilogy ) to be fought. There are still stories to be told about the Peacemaker Platoon and their war with the "others".

I have been busy running for re-election for my board of education seat. I'm proud to say that On Nov 5 2013 I was re-elected for another three years and now I can get back to my writing. The story is all laid out it's just a matter of my lazy ass getting to work. I have already started a prequel and another series of short stories. So just bare with me and in a few months time there will be more of The Dead War Series than you can handle.

Thanks to all of you that have supported the Dead War Series I really appreciate it.

George Cook author of The Dead War Trilogy.

Why are there vampires in The Dead War Series?

A question that is always asked of me is why did vampires show up in The Dead War Series Book Two: Abomination? Until that point the series had been a straight zombie series. What gives? The answer is very simple , well sort of.

The Dead War was never supposed to be a trilogy. Hell the first book was only supposed to be a stand alone story. As a matter of fact it wasn't even called The Dead War it was titled Scout: Survive The Night. It actually ended after Sgt. Richards reached The Rock and with his handing over of the vital information he carried to General Holloway. Some of who actually brought that book may have noticed that at one time Sgt. Richards wasn't even named that he was Sgt. Richardson.

After the book sold more copies than I ever expected I decided to write another and to make it at least a trilogy. In my mind this meant having to better explain the cause of the dead walking and adding to the first book. Scout: Survive The Night became The Dead War Series Book One. A prologue was added to explain how the Beserker Virus was released and the book ended with the first battle of The Rock.

Now in planning out the next two books I found myself running into a problem. How would I explain the actions of Duncan and Mitchell in the prologue of book one. I didn't think anyone would really release a virus that would wipe out mankind just for money and wanted a better reason than that. I also did not want to go the full blown conspiracy route that would have involved creating an entire mythology for The Dead War world that maybe I couldn't keep track of.

I damned sure didn't want to go the well worn ( and tired ) route of the evil corporation such as Umbrella Corporation, Weyland Industries, or OmniCorp so I had to think of someone or something with a reason to release the virus.

After some thought I came up with the idea of vampires releasing the virus in an attempt to "thin the herd" and weaken mankind before an all out assault would be unleashed. This made since to me because humans would most certainly outnumber vampires and any attempt to just attack outright would most certainly fail.

So there you have it. That's why vampires appear in The Dead War Trilogy.
