Today's zombie book of the day: Rotters by Carl R Cart

I just finished reading this zombie book and I really enjoyed it. It tries and succeeds in coming up with a plausible scenario in which a zombie apocalypse could happen. There are of course a few scares and the requisite zombie gore. I recommend this book to all zombie lovers out there. George Cook thedeadwarseries.com

Synopsis: Set in the dark heart of Africa, Rotters is a hard-core mix of biology, forensic science, military adventure and graphic zombie horror wrapped up in a leaking body bag.

When a deadly new virus emerges in the Congo river basin of central Africa, Dr. Peter Barry must lead an elite military recon team deep into the heart of the rain forest in a desperate race against time to discover the source of the virus. Why are there vampires in The Dead War Series?

A question that is always asked of me is why did vampires show up in The Dead War Series Book Two: Abomination? Until that point the series had been a straight zombie series. What gives? The answer is very simple , well sort of.

The Dead War was never supposed to be a trilogy. Hell the first book was only supposed to be a stand alone story. As a matter of fact it wasn't even called The Dead War it was titled Scout: Survive The Night. It actually ended after Sgt. Richards reached The Rock and with his handing over of the vital information he carried to General Holloway. Some of who actually brought that book may have noticed that at one time Sgt. Richards wasn't even named that he was Sgt. Richardson.

After the book sold more copies than I ever expected I decided to write another and to make it at least a trilogy. In my mind this meant having to better explain the cause of the dead walking and adding to the first book. Scout: Survive The Night became The Dead War Series Book One. A prologue was added to explain how the Beserker Virus was released and the book ended with the first battle of The Rock.

Now in planning out the next two books I found myself running into a problem. How would I explain the actions of Duncan and Mitchell in the prologue of book one. I didn't think anyone would really release a virus that would wipe out mankind just for money and wanted a better reason than that. I also did not want to go the full blown conspiracy route that would have involved creating an entire mythology for The Dead War world that maybe I couldn't keep track of.

I damned sure didn't want to go the well worn ( and tired ) route of the evil corporation such as Umbrella Corporation, Weyland Industries, or OmniCorp so I had to think of someone or something with a reason to release the virus.

After some thought I came up with the idea of vampires releasing the virus in an attempt to "thin the herd" and weaken mankind before an all out assault would be unleashed. This made since to me because humans would most certainly outnumber vampires and any attempt to just attack outright would most certainly fail.

So there you have it. That's why vampires appear in The Dead War Trilogy.

Great review of The Dead War Series: Book One

Check out this great review of The Dead War Series: Book One from it's page on B&N.

Review of The Dead War Series: Book One ( Review from books Nook page )

5 stars Horror at its best

My very first time reading this author. I love zombies and this author has done a amazing job of bringing them to bloody life. The "Grays" as they are called amazingly described. In this story you don't know who you should fear most the humans or the grays. Its the army with a twist that is scary good. I tell you one thing I wouldn't want to be a Scout. Read this book to found out why. Can't wait to read part 2. Great job

Why do so many ( relatively ) unknown authors complain about Amazon KDP?

In the interest of full disclosure first let me say that I am a KDP user and have several Kindle books available.

I can honestly say that I have had some success. Now I will not be quitting my day job any time soon but I make a nice amount to supplement my income from my real job.LOL.

Now don't get it twisted I would love to sell a million books and get movie deals and become rich. But if it doesn't happen that's okay. Why? Because I got to publish my work and someone actually paid to read it. Someone else read my story! Isn't that what writers want first and foremost?

On Amazon KDP forums you will see many post attacking Amazon KDP. Now KDP does have some issues with reports and contacting support. I hate that there is no phone number and you have to go through their site ( email ) to get a question answered. Then there is the legitimate debate about KDP select which is a complete issue unto itself.

But to the complainers I would ask, " Is there any other easier way you could have gotten your book out and actually sold it?"

For all of KDP's issues I believe it's still the easiest and quickest way to publish a book. It has offered me the opportunity to fulfill a childhood dream and become a published author. Not just here in the United States but in other countries as well.

I sell four times as many books through KDP than I do with Smashwords, Pubit, and Scribd combined. I have not tried Kobo yet as I have just found out they now have a publishing method similar to Amazon KDP and Pubit.

Like many KDP authors I don't have a publisher or a huge marketing budget but I can do what I can through Twitter, Facebook, GooglePlus, and other online methods to market my books. I can help build word of mouth.

KDP gives me and many other authors more opportunity than any other eBook format or store before it to both publish and sell our books.

Is KDP perfect? No. Does it give many authors a chance to be published and earn money? Yes.

Isn't that what all writers want? An opportunity.

George Cook author of The Dead War Series.

P.S. I know some will strongly disagree with my post but this is my opinion based on my experience. All other opinions are welcome.
