New 'Alien' novel released: Alien: Into Charybdis

Alex White, the critically acclaimed author of Alien: The Cold Forge has released a new novel that takes readers to a rogue colony where terror lurks in the tunnels of an abandoned Weyland-Yutani complex.

“Shy” Hunt and the tech team from McAllen Integrations thought they’d have an easy job—set up environmental systems for the brand new Hasanova Data Solutions colony, built on the abandoned ruins of a complex known as “Charybdis.” There are just two problems: the colony belongs to the Iranian state, so diplomacy is strained at best, and the complex is located above a series of hidden caves that contain deadly secrets. When a bizarre ship lands on a nearby island, one of the workers is attacked by a taloned creature, and trust evaporates between the Iranians and Americans. The McAllen Integrations crew are imprisoned, accused as spies, but manage to send out a distress signal… to the Colonial Marines.

Zombie Book Of The Day: Death Troopers: (Star Wars Legends)

Have you ever wondered what would happen if zombies made their way into the Star Wars (expanded) Universe? Well find out in Joe Schreiber's Death Troopers: Star Wars. Check out the book synopsis and the book below:

When the Imperial prison barge Purge–temporary home to five hundred of the galaxy’ s most ruthless killers, rebels, scoundrels, and thieves–breaks down in a distant, uninhabited part of space, its only hope appears to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting, derelict, and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party from the Purge is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back–bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours nearly all aboard the Purge die in ways too hideous to imagine.

And death is only the beginning.

The Purge’s half-dozen survivors– two teenage brothers, a sadistic captain of the guards, a couple of rogue smugglers, and the chief medical officer, the lone woman on board–will do whatever it takes to stay alive. But nothing can prepare them for what lies waiting aboard the Star Destroyer amid its vast creaking emptiness that isn’t really empty at all. For the dead are rising: soulless, unstoppable, and unspeakably hungry.

Features a bonus section following the novel that includes a primer on the Star Wars expanded universe, and over half a dozen excerpts from some of the most popular Star Wars books of the last thirty years!

Why would a zombie author write Giant Land Octopus?

Hey there this is George L. Cook III. I fancy myself an author (others may differ) as I have written a series of 5 zombie books titled The Dead War Zombie Series. On August 1, 2014 I released my latest book Giant Land Octopus which one can tell by its title has nothing to do with zombies. It's more in the sci-fi horror/humor genre (if there's such a thing) and the title says it all.

Some may wonder why I would write Giant Land Octopus. To be honest it's not the first book I have written outside the zombie genre. I have written urban fiction and children's books also but I'm a science fiction and horror fan at heart so I always find my way back to both genres. But to be honest constantly write about zombies eating people are coming up with creative ways to kill zombies can get depressing. I know what you are thinking, zombie apocalypses are usually depressing.

I'm also a big sci-fi fan. I grew up watching U.F.O. , Star Trek, Space 1999 and newer shows like Space: Above and Beyond or Battlestar Galatica (The newer one). I currently watch The Last Ship, The Strain, The Walking Dead or basically any show that starts with "The".

I love sci-fi movies like Star Wars, Aliens, Blade Runner, and The Matrix. I really have a fond spot for old creature feature movies. You know movies like THEM which was about big giant ants or Food of the Gods which was about giant rats. (don't ever watch the sequel. I warned you.) I also loved Kingdom of the Spiders which has a tile that should be self explanatory.

I will also admit to liking some of the stuff on the Syfy channel. You know like Sharktopus or Sharknado. Hey it's not high art (but it's better if your'e high) but it's enjoyable garbage that elicits a few laughs. That's what I was shooting for when I wrote Giant Land Octopus.

I don't really know how I came up with a giant octopus but it was down to that and a giant gerbil. I decided that no one but Tom Cruise would be excited by a giant gerbil so I went with the octopus. (I know that was uncalled for but you laughed.

Now I did't take the overly campy route although there is comedy it's not the spoof or outright parody type. I even studied up on octopuses (I learned that octopi is not actually the plural form). I found two species that fit the story and tried to keep things as realistic as you can in a story titled Giant Land Octopus. I took a few liberties as far as calling the liquid it secrets to disable it's victims ink when it's really not and I made (or believe I did) some crap about octopuses not leaving their "hunting grounds". Hey it sounds good and explains why the octopus just want go away and eat another town.

I wanted to have fun with a story and share my love of sci-fi and old creature feature movies. There are even a few reference to at least three sci-fi movies in the story. I wonder who can catch them. I think I have shared my love of these movies with a quick and witty old fashioned monster of the week story. I hope you take the time to check it out and maybe even leave a review (please!).

Well what are you waiting for? Buy the damn book already...LOL. No really buy the kindle version of the book on Amazon for 99¢ by clicking the picture below:

I love This book. It's a very exciting, not for the faint of heart, mid 21st century, hi drama, bloody adventure thrill ride that brings a fresh twist to the zombie/vampire genre. You have to have a real love for writing to come up with this. I look forward to the next in the series.....

New Dead War Trilogy Cover

Here is the new cover for my book The Dead War Trilogy! Thanks to all of those who gave input on the cover and the book's title. It made a lot of sense that I should not use both series and trilogy in the title.

What's worse? Being black on The Walking Dead or wearing a red shirt on Star Trek?

If you have watched The Walking Dead you know that it ain't easy being African american and staying alive in a post apocalyptic world. In Three seasons we have lost Jacqui ( Season One ), T-Dog, Duanne, and Oscar. ( all in season three ). We still have Michonne, Tyrese, and Morgan ( but he's bat shit crazy ) and the quiet guy with the crossbow who is with the Governor. But then again they were all introduced in season three and T Dog and Oscar had to go to make room I guess. But we still have three episodes left in season three so there's still time for someone to die.

This got me to wondering. What do you think is safer? Being black on The Walking Dead or wearing a red shirt on Star Trek. What do you think?

To stop a zombie apocalypse you must sacrifice yourself and your crew. What do you do?

Ok guys check out this scenario.

You are the commander of the starship USS Wearefucked. During an expedition to a previously unknown planet your landing party ignores every known safety protocol ( how else do these things happen? ) and brings back an infection that turns most of your crew into flesh eating zombies. You have lost control of the ship and only you and thirty of your crew remain locked up in the control room. There are 4 escape pods left and at least 16 of you could escape.

Also if that's not bad enough ,if an emergency occurs the ships computers automatically plot in a return course to Earth.

You can not undo this. What do you do?

Do you set the ships auto-destruct to keep the ship from reaching Earth with your entire crew on board or do you take a chance and let 16 of your crew escape allowing for the possibility of the infection reaching Earth?

The Man In The Hat. A New Dead War Series Short Story

Hi all. I know you are waiting for The Dead War Book 3: War and I promise it's coming. Until then two short stories will be released. The first is The Man In The Hat a short story based on a piece of flash fiction titled BELOVED that I wrote last month. You may remember it:

BELOVED

Grover looked on as the naked female zombie gnawed on the leg bone of her latest victim. Blood covered her entire body. Well what was left of it any way. Her abdomen had been ripped out and her entrails lay on the floor before her. One of her eyes had been torn out and her lips had been chewed off.

Grover sat quietly in the corner as the zombie soon realized that there was no more to eat. She looked over at Grover. She shrieked and lunged at him.

The chain around her neck yanked her back to the floor. Grover had long ago chained her there. She reached out towards him moaning softly.

Grover smiled. “ Still hungry beloved?”

The zombie moaned loudly and began yanking on the chain.

Grover stood up and put on the poor boy style hat he had been holding in his hands.“ I’ll go get you something else to eat.”

The zombie calmed down and sat as if it were a dog.

Grover looked at her lovingly. “ Till death do us part.”

He turned from her as tears rolled down her face. He started toward the door to getmore “food” for his beloved. THE END

So now I would like to introduce a new Dead War Series Short Story based on BELOVED, The man in the hat. The living dead are not the only monsters out there. 99 cents.

Do book or movie critics affect your buying choices?

Let me start of by saying that this is not about bashing critics. As a writer I want my book reviewed, preferably a positive review.

But I've always wondered especially when it comes to the horror, science fiction, erotica, or other niche genres do people pay attention to reviews. As fans of certain genres you actually get to a point where you don't expect these movies / book to get a positive review. That leads me to my question. Do critics affect your movie / book choices.

Which one of these sci-fi / horror films was actually not that bad?

We have all been unable to sleep late at night and wound up channel surfing. Occasionally we come across a movie that we had always heard sucked. Because it's late at night and partly because we may be half drunk after watching the movie we think to ourselves, " That sh** wasn't that bad. ". And secretly we wind up liking the movie although many critics and sci-fi / horror fans hated it. Which of the movies below fit the description of "actually not that bad". Feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments section.

What's the most ignored warning in horror and scifi stories / movies

When it comes to many horror and science fiction movies and or stories there's always that moment when someone no matter how intelligent does something incredibly stupid. They do something that normally unleashes death and mayhem when if they had only listened to someone's warning everyone would have went home safely that night. But of course then there would be no story or movie. What do you think is the most ignored horror / sci fi movie / story warning?

Transcript: Interview with Berserker Virus creator, Dr Ariza

Transcript: Meeting between Dr Ariza creator of the Berserker  Virus and General Hollis US Army

Date: September 21,  2054

Time: 0400 hours ( 4AM )

Hollis: I'm sorry about the attack on you. Are you okay?

Ariza: I think I am. I'm scared to be here in this base. If your men are going to try to kill me I would rather be outside with the dead.

Hollis: Lady you should be scared to be anywhere. You created the reason we are here. You created the Berserker Virus.

Ariza: Oh so it's okay for your men to try to kill me?

Hollis: No and it wont happen again. I will assign a soldier to protect you.

Ariza: One of your men will kill me. Hell, one already tried.

Hollis: It wont be one of mine. It will be a scout. They are special forces and they follow orders. I don't want you dead and right now I need you alive.

Ariza: What do you want?

Hollis: I want to know why my men are fighting the dead and why the fuck the world is about to end.

Ariza: You know why. The Berserker Virus.

Hollis: I read the files and I don't understand how this shit spread. The virus was supposed to make opposing soldiers kill each other.  I thought the virus killed the host in two hours. It's obvious this did not happen.

Ariza: The original virus was a  combination of a nerve agent and a virus. It would cause an immediate reaction to those exposed to it like a nerve gas and through their bodily fluids spread like a virus to others. Once exposed  a subject only had two hours to live. In theory when used in the right settings an opposing force would wipe itself out in a matter of hours.

Hollis: What happened Doctor?

Ariza: There is some evidence that some of the virus was used in Iran against the rebels during their war. Early on through carelessness Iranian Special Forces were exposed. These special forces troops had been administered some type of experimental drug that was supposed to protect them from any biological weapons.

Hollis: Did it work?

Ariza: No, but it kept them alive for days longer than they should have lived. It also slowed the onset on the beserker effect.  This allowed them to leave the war zones and enter into cities and towns where they spread the virus when it finally did hit them. In the passing of the virus from the troops who had the experimental drug to those without it I believe the virus mutated into a form that no longer killed the host.

Hollis: Do you have any idea what the Iranians gave there soldiers?

Ariza: I can't say for sure but we know there are some drugs that inhibited earlier biological weapons and we believe a combination of those were used along with something new.

Hollis: Dr. Ariza, can you find a way to stop the spread of this virus.

Ariza: As one of the few alive that actually know how it works I believe that given time I can.

Hollis: Lady humanity doesn't have too much time left. Find a way to stop this shit and find it now.

Ariza: I will work as hard as I can General Hollis. I feel I owe the world that.

Hollis: Fuck you and what you feel you owe. You will find a way to stop this and save humanity or I will shoot you myself. Understood.

Ariza: Yes

Holllis: Good, have a nice day.
